Julia Alvarez
A Dominican-American author, Julia Alvarez writes novels, essays, books for young readers, and poetry. She is most known for two of her novels, How The García Girls Lost Their Accents (1991), and, In the Time of the Butterflies (1994), which was made into a movie.
Rudolfo Anaya
Rudolfo Anaya was a Mexican-American writer best known for his Chicano-themed books such as Bless Me, Ultima (1972). He also wrote poetry and short stories.
Sandra Cisneros
This Mexican American novelist, poet, and short story writer is well known for her first novel The House on Mango Street (1984), and her subsequent short story collection, Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories (1991).
Octavio Paz
A Mexican poet and diplomat, Octavio Paz was awarded the Miguel de Cervantes Prize (1981), the Neustadt International Prize for Literature (1982), and the Nobel Prize in Literature (1990).

Sonia Sotomayor is US Supreme Court justice appointed by Barack Obama in 2009. She was born in NY to parents of Puerto Rican descent. She is the first Latina to be nominated to the Supreme Court in US History.
