Jane Goodall was a British primatologist known for her pioneering research on chimpanzees and for her conservation advocacy. She spent the early years of her career observing and documenting the behavior of wild chimpanzees. Her scientific observations were unprecedented in the field of primatology and would have major influence on the field and future generations of researchers. She eventually began spending less time in the field and more time advocating for the conservation of animals and their habitats. In 1977 she established the Jane Goodall Institute with the goal of of mobilizing people and funds to protect the natural world. She spent her later years continuing her advocacy work around the world spreading a message of hope and compassion for all living things.
