Strategic Planning at OCLS: Past Communication

You encouraged customers to give their feedback. You gave voice to your ideas and hopes for OCLS's future. You waited patiently and wondered, "what is OCLS's second century going to hold?" Wait no further because Steve is sharing our new strategic plan with you now! You can find Steve's video here or on our Strat Plan LibGuide Page. Last night we introduced the working draft of the new OCLS Strategic Plan to the library’s board of trustees. The vote to approve the new plan is scheduled for August 2024, and the new plan will be implemented starting October 1, 2024, when our new fiscal year begins. Now, we want you to see the plan so many of you helped create. The full plan is attached, or you can read it on the Strat Plan LibGuide.  

As we move closer to adopting the new OCLS Stategic Plan, you will receive more information about its implementation and how that will affect you and your location. For now, look over the plan. If you have questions, please reach out to us at stratplan@ocls.info.

Staff Retreats have finished, and we are excited to tell you that 300 staff members shared their stories and ideas in these fun and fast paced Staff Retreats. With a turnout like this, you can rest easy knowing your voices have been heard. Thank you for your continued support of the strategic planning process.

The Strategic Plan Committee, in partnership with Fast Forward Libraries, will be holding a series of in-person and virtual staff retreats. This is the staff’s chance to dream big about the future of the library. Please speak with your manager and then sign up for one of the staff retreats. They are high energy and give you the chance to be heard as we shape the future of the Orange County Library System.

Strategic Plan Committee

The Strategic Plan Committee has added a staff retreat session in Spanish on Thursday, March 21 at 2 p.m. This session will have 90 minutes dedicated to talking about the library's strategic plan and will be facilitated by our Fast Forward Libraries consultants. This session gives you the opportunity to be heard as we shape the future of the Orange County Library System. Please note that your participation is not mandatory, but we want any interested staff members to participate in this opportunity to provide valuable feedback. Talk to your manager first before registering. Please let your manager know first before registering.

Esta sesión le brinda la oportunidad de ser escuchado mientras damos forma al futuro del Sistema de Bibliotecas del Condado de Orange. We are excited to share an opportunity for staff to provide input into the strategic planning process.  The staff retreats (virtual and in-person) will be 90 minutes devoted to talking about the library's strategic plan and will be facilitated by our consultants at Fast Forward Libraries. These virtual/in-person staff retreats will take place in March (see schedule below). These retreats will allow for direct and specific feedback.  

We highly encourage all staff to register for one of the retreats. Please note that while attendance is not mandatory, we do want any interested staff to be able to participate in this chance to provide valuable feedback. Please discuss with your manager and confirm which retreat will work best with your location’s needs before registering. You only need to attend ONE retreat.  All in-person retreats will be held In the Info Power Suite on the 5^th floor of the Orlando Public Library, and the virtual retreats will take place via zoom.

As a reminder, the Strategic Capacity Survey for staff closes at 11:59pm this Friday, December 29, 2023. Your voice matters to the future of the library. If you haven't done so, please take ten minutes to fill out the anonymous staff survey and help shape the future of the Library.

This morning an email was sent to all staff by Amanda Standerfer (Amanda@fastforwardlibraries.com) containing a link to the Strategic Capacity Assessment. This survey is an important part of creating our new strategic plan and is our opportunity as staff to share our feedback and perspective. We ask that all staff complete it before it closes at 11:59pm on December 29th.

The survey appears to have gone to spam folders for some staff, so if you do not see this in your inbox, please check your spam folder for the email titled You're invited to complete the OCLS Strategic Capacity Assessment!

The start of the survey includes some instructions and a video explaining the details and purpose of the survey, and what they are trying to learn with each section.

We are excited to share that the Community Survey landing page is now live. Customers can reach the page by going to https://ocls.info/communitysurvey or using the QR code below. The survey will remain open until January 7, 2024.

Please encourage your customers to fill out the survey. We are attaching the Survey Flyers for you to place around your branch to help spread the word that we need their voice. The survey is available in English, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish. You can also find printable versions of the surveys on the Strategic Plan LibGuide (Haitian Creole and Portuguese coming soon).

This week, you will also see the staff survey (called The Library Strategic Capacity Assessment) coming to your email. This survey will come from our consultant, Amanda Standerfer’s Survey Monkey account. Please do not delete this email or mark it as Phishing. Please take the time to fill out this survey, to lend your voice to the strategic planning process as well.
